Linking External Accounts and Cash Compass

Manage Money Wisely with Linking External Accounts

Would you like to view all your financial accounts in one place? Say hello to Linking External Accounts! At First Dakota, we believe you shouldn't have to sacrifice security or convenience. Both are possible. Whether it's a checking, savings, investment, retirement, or credit card account, you can use our Digital Banking platform as your "financial hub." This feature empowers you to view multiple account balances and recent transactions in a convenient and secure location, making it easier to manage your finances.

You will need to have your username and password for the other financial institutions' electronic platform. If you don't have online access to your accounts at the other financial institution, you cannot link the account.

1. Log into your Digital Banking.
2. Here are three different ways to get to the Link an Account feature. Use the one best suited for you.

  • Choose the three dots in the upper right hand corner of the dashboard and select Link an account
  • Navigate to the full listing of your accounts by selecting View all in the lower right hand corner > select the + in the upper right hand corner > select Link an account
  • Select the three horizontal lines in the upper left hand corner > select your Profile > select Settings > select Add account > select Link an account

3. You will see a screen stating First Dakota National Bank uses Finicity, a Mastercard® company, to connect your accounts. Press Next to select or search for the financial institution.
4. After you select the financial institution of your choice, you will be presented with the login page. After you enter your credentials, the system may want to verify it’s really you. Follow any additional prompts.
5. Continue to link additional accounts. The linked accounts will show at the end of your account listings on your dashboard or on your Account listings page.

Your balances will show right away, it may take a few hours or days for the transactions to appear.

Linking an external account and bank-to-bank transfers are two separate features. If you want to move money between your First Dakota account and another external bank account, you will need to go through the external bank-to-bank transfers process.

Cash Compass is an innovative Personal Financial Management (PFM) tool integrated into Digital Banking to help you take control of your finances, track spending, and make informed financial decisions. With Cash Compass, you can easily visualize your financial habits, set budgets, and monitor your progress, all in one convenient location.

Cash Compass offers the following features, plus so much more:

  • Budgets: Stay on track with your spending and saving.
  • Cashflow: Make informed financial decisions easier because you know where your money is coming from and where it is going.
  • Net Worth: Determine if you are on track to meet your financial goals.
  • Transaction search: Locate transactions related to specific tags, purchase amounts, time period, business, etc.
  • Alerts: Stay informed with automated alerts.
  • Analyzer: Visualize your finances through circle and bar graphs.
  • Goals: Set goals and use tools to help you save money and pay off debt.
  • Link Accounts: View all your account balances and recent transactions from all your financial accounts, even those at different financial institutions, in one convenient location.

Log into your Digital Banking. Select the main menu in the upper left hand corner. Click on Insights. You will see Cash Compass in blue at the top. Click on the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner, you will see the Cash Compass Menu. Use this menu to get started.

The help menu has a number of Frequently Asked Questions to help you navigate Cash Compass. Utilize this menu for the most up-to-date information.
