Denis Fokken retired from First Dakota National Bank in January 2017. Denis began employment with First Dakota in 1976 as Internal Auditor, later became Vice President & Controller, and then Vice President & Senior Operations Officer. In 1992, he was named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In addition to his work with general bank operations, he was specifically responsible for overseeing the accounting and finance areas of the Bank and the Holding Company. Denis earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, with emphasis in Accounting from Mount Marty College in 1973. He worked for a Yankton accounting firm upon graduation and obtained his CPA designation in 1975. He graduated from the Colorado Graduate School of Banking in 1982. Denis joined the board in 2017.

Denis has served on a number of non-profit boards in various leadership capacities. He served on the board of trustees of Mount Marty College of Yankton for eight years and completed two terms as chair. He is a past president of Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton and serves as co-chair of the 37-year old Hillcrest Pro-Am Golf Tournament. He is on the South Dakota Golf Association (SDGA) board of directors and currently holds the position of vice president. He is also on the SDGA Junior Golf Foundation board, currently serving as treasurer. He is a past exalted ruler of the Yankton Elks Lodge and a long-time committee member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the South Dakota CPA Society. He was inducted into Mount Marty’s Business Hall of Fame in 1995.
